As my career has progressed throughout the last decade, I have developed a real passion around not only the individuals receiving the care, but also the people providing it. I have gone to dozens of trainings and paid close to attention to the content, as well as how they were conducted. Some felt like a complete waste of time while others left me with thoughts, tools, and insights that I still think about today. Rooted in many of the concepts highlighted in The Empathy Adviser Toolkit, these trainings will be designed to leave everybody with practical tips, new frameworks, and a renewed sense of support and confidence in the work they do. This also leads to better morale and retention, improved care, and a greater reputation in the field for you and your company.

On September 10th, 2014, I had my very first day as a DSP.
A decade later, after a particularly disappointing piece of career news near the end of 2024, I decided to try and Make the Best of It by creating something valuable for people who are where I was. Interested in DSP work and clueless about how to get better. Throughout my career, I have seen countless DSPs come and go with very little training, guidance, or advice on how to best support the people they work with.
I spent hundreds of hours over the next several months building a collection of tips, stories, and things I wish somebody told me when I started as a DSP.
